The History Wiki
Curiosity, with sources.
The History Wiki is an independent collection of accessible historical explainers. Our subjects range from public events and religious traditions to food, design, names, and everyday language.
Our approach
Each article offers a focused account, a short chronology, and linked sources. We favour primary records, museums, archives, scholarly research, and institutions with relevant expertise. A company’s account can establish its own design decisions; it cannot by itself settle every claim about its cultural impact.
Oral traditions, disputed origins, and uncertain dates are identified explicitly. We distinguish the setting of a religious narrative from the date its text was composed, and a surname’s linguistic origin from an individual family’s genealogy.
Images tell a story, too
Historical images are captioned and credited. Brand logos are reproduced for identification and historical discussion; their inclusion does not imply endorsement. Typographic illustrations are editorial graphics, not historical artefacts.
A living collection
These articles were prepared with AI assistance. They are general historical introductions, not peer-reviewed scholarship. Source links make the supporting material available for readers to inspect. No named historian, academic review, or first-hand archival visit is implied.
